(TL;DR: Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers > Healthy Choice Lasagna)
In my attempt to eat low-calorie and healthy, picking a good lunch is sometimes tough. I often want to go for a simple, low-calorie TV dinner (or are they now called “microwave meals”?) made by some company like Lean Cuisine, or Healthy Choice or Smart Ones. But sadly, I’m usually tricked by the cruel healthy food marketing execs. I buy a box that looks like this:

I’m not sure what I was expecting. Obviously I’m not going to get a gourmet “Hey I’m eating at Maggiano’s even though it’s only 250 calories!” type of lasagna…. Although the package certainly made me think I would. And it’s not like they’re going to put the picture that I took on the cover because, seriously, who would buy this?If Healthy Choice packaging was honest, it would look like this... Click To Tweet
To be honest, I did. Yes, I eat this at least once a week because it’s cheap and it’s only 270 calories. With some salt added I can pretend it’s… better. Kinda.
But rather than just complaining in this blog post, I thought I’d share some helpful information. Healthy Choice “Cafe Steamers” are actually quite yummy. I tried my first one today and, believe it or not, it actually looked like the photo. And it tasted pretty good too. Wanna buy some? Here’s a link on Amazon that will show you all the flavors. And while you’re at it, go ahead and buy something from Amazon after clicking on the link. It’s an affiliate link and my blogs need support to stay alive. 😉
OK, here’s what the box looks like:
And I kid you not, this is what the Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers looked like after cooking, right before I gobbled it all up with much yumminess:Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers look and taste delish! #DietingTips Click To Tweet
It looks exactly like the photo! In real life! OK, OK, if you want to get really picky, the chicken doesn’t quite look the same. The chicken looks more like a freeze-dried-rehydrated variety vs the tenderly grilled chicken in the photo. But all in all, for a healthy lunch, not bad.
So yes, you will still be hungry after eating this. You will still want two pieces of garlic bread dipped in real butter and covered in yummy mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Or you’ll want a chocolate brownie to wash it down, along with a Dr Pepper. Let’s be real, even dressed up, 280 calories isn’t super filling. But I just tell myself “being hungry is a sign that my body is burning fat,” and sometimes that works.
If it doesn’t, just don’t leave any Reese’s nearby. Or that half a loaf of pumpkin bread that I ate last week. (oops)
